Blogging is addicting

I started blogging late last year though I wanted to do it long before that. Like most things, fear got in the way. I wasn’t sure if I could write regularly, if people would like what I write, or if there would be people interested enough to follow. I wasn't also sure if I was adept enough to handle my own website. But I guess my love for writing was far stronger.

So here I am, a year and two months and exactly 100 posts later, still blogging and absolutely loving it!

First, blogging has been therapeutic for me. While writing before helped me sort out my thoughts, there is nothing better than having someone read them and letting me know that whether they agreed with me or not, liked what they read or not, I’m still alright.

Second, blogging opened the door to new friendships. I’m not a techie person but I find something uniquely interesting about having online friends. I don’t know if it’s the anonymity or the bonding it allows people to make regardless of country, race, faith, or other differences; that I find quite remarkable. It's just that never in my wildest dreams did I ever think of sharing my dreams and interests with people halfway across the globe.

Third, blogging allowed me to get out of the shore, wade into the deep and test the waters. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved to write. If there was one thing I would do for free, that would be writing. Sustaining this blog for a year now wasn’t always easy. There were moments when I just didn’t have the time or the energy. There were moments when I didn’t know what to write about. There were no murmurings in my ear, no spurts of inspiration, no calls for reflections. But the online friends and communities I’ve joined sent me flashes of insight and the much needed dose of encouragement that managed to pull me through.

Fourth, blogging has made the path towards my dream of writing my book and getting it published closer to reality. I’ve written some of my short stories here and comments have been helpful, encouraging and empowering. For the first time, dear readers, I honestly believed that maybe, I could still make it.

Finally, who wouldn’t love blogging when once in a while, someone notices you, gives you that pat on the back and hands you an award? Wow! Doesn’t that just make your day?

Thanks to Carrie over at Chasing Revery, I was nominated for the Addictive Blog Award. Now, that makes blogging truly addicting!

The rules of the award are:
  1. Thank the person awarding you.
  2. Share a little about why you blog and how the journey started.
  3. Paste the blog award on your page.
  4. Nominate 10 other bloggers you feel deserve the award.
This post I guess just completed rule numbers 1 to 3. So I’d like to pass it on to these people who have been part of my journey and perhaps without their knowledge, have encouraged me to go on.
