I was intrigued by the Writer's Post's word prompt today that came from Jo of My Wandering Mind. The word is INVISIBLE and suddenly a crowd of faceless people came to mind. How many times do we look at people when we pass them by? How many times do we stop and say hello? How many times have we run off somewhere because we were just so busy?
I am also guilty of this and the word prompt reminded me how short a life we all live not to stop and look and see...

In tattered clothes he walked
A full smile on his worn-out face
“Thank you” he whispered, “for this brand new day”
Though what business would bring, he couldn’t say.
The city had come alive
People walked, others almost ran
Off to work, to some important meeting
They hardly saw him, even as he started singing.
A couple passed him by, “Something sweet for her?” he asked
“A balloon for the little one” he showed off to a crying child
He smiled to a group of school children, “Look! It flies with the wind!”
But there was no answer, no one looked his way, not one seemed to hear.

Half the day went and the heat burned his skin
He felt the sweat trickle down the back of his neck
“It’s still a brand new day” he told himself
“My luck is just about to begin.”
Then a young man walked in to the square, in search of something
His eyes circled the crowd then stopped and glanced at him
Maybe he’ll want to buy a toy for his kid, he smiled
“Roses!” the young man shouted, “how much are those roses?”
Too bad he doesn’t sell roses, the man sheepishly smiled
And hoped the next one will bring more luck
He wondered what present he could buy if he sold all his wares
To surprise his little girl at dinner tonight.
He walked out of the square, to where there were more people
Maybe here, someone will want to buy,
Just to sell half of his wares, that was enough,
To buy a doll and shower his little girl with all his love.
“Hey!” someone shouted, he turned in anticipation of a sale
He broke into a run and abruptly crossed the street
Suddenly he heard it, screeching tires and frightened screams
“Turn back! Turn back!” the crowd yelled, “There’s someone under your truck.”
For a moment he wondered why he was lying on the ground
His legs hurt, he couldn’t feel a thing, there was no air left to breathe
“What happened? Where did he come from? Who is he?” a voice asked
“I didn’t see him! No one saw him! He just came from nowhere!”
He opened his eyes, a bright orange ball was descending on the horizon
He smiled one last time and whispered
“Thank you for this brand new day”
